Brown and Rainbow Trout Fishing- Futa Lodge
Futaleufú, Chile

Just across the Argentina border near the Patagonian town of Esquel, and deep into the Coyhue forests of the famous 10th Region of Chile, is the trout-laden Futaleufu River. A world all its own, the pristine stretches of the Futaleufe River (also known as the "Big River") weave through rolling hills and unspoiled mountainous terrain. Many anglers consider the Futaleufu to be the world’s finest Brown and Rainbow trout fishing river, and the area’s landscape among the most beautiful in the world. The Futaleufe is located just south of the Chilean Lake District and is a stand-alone fishery. Huge stocks of Brown trout and Rainbow trout enjoy an abundance of mayfly, stonefly and caddis hatches. The enormous stock of trout combined with great hatches of flies and classic fly-fishing waters make the Futaeufu River a true trout fishing paradise.

The Fishing

High Season – January 15 to March 25

The trout fishing at Futa Fishing Lodge is largely done right out of the lodge’s front door where the Futaeufu River passes by. In addition, other area trout fishing rivers and local lakes provide great action and variety of scenery.
The Brown and Rainbow trout of the Futaleufu River were originally stocked in the early 19th Century. The Rainbow Trout and Brown Trout populations in the Futaleufu River have grown to become some of the healthiest trout populations in South America. Now days, the Futaleufe is the envy of trout fisheries all over the world.
For those seeking added adventure, it is easy to cross into Argentina for excellent dry-fly and nymph fishing in different rivers close to Esquel. Anglers also have the option of seasonal trout fishing expeditions to remote lakes and coastal fishing areas. With these special programs, anglers can expect to encounter Silver and Chinook salmon along with the Sea Run Browns and Rainbow Trout.
Much of the trout fishing at Futa Fishing Lodge is conducted in float trip fashion, but our professional trout fishing guides often stop near productive drifts for incredible wade fishing. During the course of a typical trout fishing day, anglers will be challenged to fish using many methods. An angler might find himself scouting the shoreline for big browns with a long streamer one minute, then be surface fishing for Rainbows the next.

The Lodges
Futa Fishing Lodge comfortably holds 8 guests – 6 anglers and 2 non-anglers. Lazy horseback trails wind from the lodge to the river’s edge through a blanket of wildflowers. Beautiful views and quick access to the fishing waters make the Futa Fishing Lodge experience unique. Evenings at Futa Fishing Lodge are unforgettable. Incredible asados (Argentina BBQ’s) are accompanied by fine wines, and local dancing groups provide entertainment.
